Tanzania is a bucket list safari destination for people from across the globe! When planning a trip, it is important to ask the question, “how much does a Tanzania safari cost?” before confirming your budget and travel itinerary.
The price of a Tanzanian safari depends on several aspects; largely on the duration of your trip, the season, the standard of accommodation you prefer, and how you would like to be transported.
Fees for the national parks are pricey and do contribute greatly to the overall cost of a Tanzania safari trip ( typically, the park fees within the national parks are approximately USD 70 per person per night charged to the client, and a similar value charged to the lodge) which does add to the overall cost.
Below are approximations of what a 10-day sample itinerary in Tanzania’s northern circuit will cost. The northern circuit generally includes the Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania safari tour itineraries will typically follow a similar route, but the final price can vary greatly based on the factors above)
Tanzania Safari Value Orientated Options:
Should you choose to stay in value accommodation (3-star level) on a scheduled safari tour that departs with other passengers on a predetermined routing, expect to pay in the region of USD3,500 to USD5,000 per person sharing.
Tanzania Safari Standard Orientated Options
Mid-range accommodations are of a 4-star nature, and with this option, you will be transported by private guided vehicles or fly-in via small aircraft, expect to pay between USD5,000 to USD7,500 per person sharing.
Tanzania Safari Luxury Orientated Options
Top-end safari accommodations present the ultimate indulgences and luxury! Generally, guests will be flown to camp via chartered aircraft and stay in 5-star accommodation. Expect to pay USD7,500 and above per person sharing.
Tanzania safari tour advice from Safari365
We often recommend ‘private guided safaris’, which include the exclusive use of a safari vehicle and your own driver/guide. Transport is priced per vehicle and not per person.
Travel with a group of friends or family for the most cost-effective transport option (as the vehicle cost is shared by all those travelling on the tour). Although travelling times are longer on private guided safaris, it does add an interesting aspect of seeing the country and destination from a vehicle! Game drives start en-route to your lodge and importantly, as special game viewing opportunities arise, you may stop and watch according to your wishes.
We also recommend ‘fly-in’ safaris when the camps and lodges are very spread out. The advantage to a ‘fly-in’ safari is that it does eliminate long drives between lodges and gets you to the ultimate destinations faster, however it will cost more than other forms of safari transport.
