Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is one of the few lodges located on the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania.
The Ngorongoro Crater was formed millions of years ago when an ancient volcano collapsed. Today it is a haven for wildlife. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to 25 000 large mammals that roam the 300km2 area. Lion, elephant, cheetah, zebra to name a few, as well as the elusive black rhino and leopard; everyday the thousands of species of wildlife and birdlife interact across the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular wildlife safari destination.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is perched on the edge of the crater, giving it panoramic views across the crater area. The lodge has 30 suites, each with a personal butler, and is made up of three camps; North Camp, South Camp, and Tree Camp. Opulent furnishings adorn every room in the lodge where walls are dotted with African Treasures and grand chandeliers glitter on ceilings. The lodge’s architecture is inspired by traditional Maasai Mara homesteads built of mud and sticks. The lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience life in the crater with private game drives as well as walks in the lodge’s grounds.
“As you drive in, it is clear that the look of this property is different and unique. A guide with the biggest smile welcomes you at the entrance gate and the friendly service did not stop there, and there was a warm hospitable atmosphere during the stay and staff go out of their way to make the stay memorable. The lodge boasts quirky and interesting architecture and has the most amazing views of the crater. Each room is decorated in a bespoke almost colonial-style with clever touches of antique furniture, leather and silk materials making each room one of a kind. Big fire bowls outside are lit every night and evoke a great African nighttime vibe. Right on the edge of the crater, the views are excellent. On the crater floor during game drives, guests can view the wildlife up close with optional extras of private bush breakfasts and lunches.
If you want to experience a traditional, authentic, tented safari then this lodge may not be for you. However if you want to step out and have a totally different safari experience, with lots of luxury, character and opulence, then Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is a must.”
