Route 62 & The Karoo 365
A scenic stretch of road, running between the Cape Winelands and the historic town of Oudtshoorn (the famous ostrich farming town of the Klein Karoo which accounts for more than 70% of all ostrich products worldwide), Route 62 passes a number of charming towns (Robertson, Ashton, Montagu to name a few) and through spectacular ever-changing landscapes, starting with the lush wineland valleys, through the starkly beautiful semi-desert of the Karoo and ending just before the start of the Garden Route.
The quintessential road trip-route, it ticks all the boxes – easily navigable, with picturesque places to stop and take in the sights and plentiful places to stay.
A couple of must stops along the way, should time permit include: Sanbona Private Game Reserve (a wildlife destination whose peacefulness and accessibility makes up for its atypical game viewing) and the Cango Caves (rated as one of the best limestone caves in the world).
Along the route you’ll also find a variety of activities – including hiking, mountain biking, 4×4 trails, canoeing, horse riding, safaris and rock climbing.
Thanks to its proximity to the Cape Winelands, the Whale Coast and the Garden Route, Route 62 acts as an excellent way to bridge activities on your itinerary.
