Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp
Nestled in a small forest on the banks of the Grumeti River in the remote western Serengeti is Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp.
Please note: Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp has recently undergone a refurbishment. While still a fantastic destination before, the tented camp is refreshed and renewed. Please click through to our gallery to see photos of the renovated tented camp.
The Serengeti is famous for vast plains, beautiful landscapes and excellent wildlife viewing; all of which add up to make it a hugely popular safari destination. The Western Serengeti is more remote and sees fewer tourists than other parts of the Serengeti which creates a great, secluded atmosphere for travelers looking for an “off-the-beaten-track” safari experience. During June and July, the Grumeti River is the site of dramatic scenes as the Great Migration passes through and thousands of wildebeest make the river crossing while trying their best to stay out of the clutches of treacherous crocodiles. Grumeti is a great year-round safari destination with high numbers of predator and prey.
Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp has a picturesque setting on the edge of the Grumeti River. The camp offers a quiet getaway surrounded by nature. Recently renovated and rustic but still sophisticated, the 10 en suite tents and main camp area have been inspired by the Great Migration with wildebeest colours accenting the furnishings. Grumeti Serengeti’s extensive deck offers stunning views of the river and guests can relax in the swimming pool while enjoying the sights and sounds of the nearby hippo pool. The camp also offers a range of activities including game drives and day trips to Lake Victoria.
“Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is in a really special location. It’s in the Serengeti so guests can expect amazing wildlife characteristic of the region but far enough away from busier destinations that it feels remote, secluded and peaceful. The excellent position right by the river offers fantastic wildlife viewing. A memorable experience is watching the hippos lazing in the hippo pool which is excitingly close by while you relax on the deck.
The camp itself has gone through a recent renovation with the finished product reflecting the quality typical of an &beyond lodge. It is a smaller lodge with only 10 tents which makes for a quieter, more private safari getaway. The tents closer to the riverine forest offer more seclusion and all of the tented rooms are an easy walking distance from the main camp. The food is great with the homemade ice cream being a highlight! The staff is warm, fun and helpful which creates a highly enjoyable and relaxing safari atmosphere.”
