Kapama Buffalo Camp
Kapama’s Buffalo Camp is a small and intimate raised, tented camp situated in the treetops of Kapama Private Nature Reserve,
Kapama Private Game Reserve is a private game reserve that is a sanctuary for a myriad of wildlife and birdlife. The reserve, located on Kruger National Park’s western border, is the largest family owned reserve in the central Greater Kruger area. It is home to four camps and luxury lodges offering guests an unforgettable escape into the pristine African wilderness. A stay at Kapama is a chance to encounter the breathtaking beauty of nature whether is while enjoying the twice daily game drives, exploring the bush on guided nature walks or when sleeping under the stars on one of Kapama’s romantic private sleep outs.
Kapama Buffalo Camp is one of Kapama’s four properties. It offers guests old world –style charm and feel high up in the treetops. Guests can make their way around the elevated camp using the raised wooden walkways. According to Kapama, this is the closest their guests can get to living alongside the wildlife. Buffalo Camp has 10 luxurious tented suites. Each is en-suite and decorated with dark wood and leather to invoke feelings of luxury and nostalgia. The suites come with air-conditioning for the hotter months and heated blankets for when the temperature becomes chillier. Buffalo Camp is the smallest camp which allows guests a quiet, secluded and intimate experience. Guests can relax in the main lounge and the elevated rim flow pool which offers stunning views of the surroundings. Guests can also enjoy breakfast and lunch a la carte and a vibrant dinner filled with traditional fare, enjoyed next to a roaring fire in a traditional African boma.
“When we arrived at Kapama, we happily handed over our car keys to the staff who would take care of our bags while we were escorted to dinner in the boma. After a long day of travelling, we were treated to a huge and highly enjoyable dinner. After dinner, our ranger then escorted us to our room. The rooms are spacious with amenities such as a mini bar as well as tea and a nespresso machine. They are beautifully decorated to create a feeling of old-school safari nostalgia.
The next morning, we were up before the birds for tea and coffee before climbing into our open land rover for our morning game drive. Being May, it was rather freezing, but we were provided with blankets to stay warm and comfortable. Our guide, Roeland, kept an expert eye out for any animals and when he found some, always stopped to provide us with some interesting facts or regail us with a funny tale.
Once the game drive was over, we returned to our lodge for a hearty English breakfast before returning to our gorgeous room to while away the afternoon until we got to do it all again on our afternoon game drive.
The Private Game Reserves adjoining Kruger National Park aim to provide their guests with an unparalleled wilderness experience. Kapama Game Reserve and Kapama Buffalo Camp certainly achieved that goal.”
