Mount Kilimanjaro climb on the Marangu Route
Embark on an unforgettable Kilimanjaro tour with Safari365 and summit the highest mountain on the African continent (Mount Kilimanjaro) via the popular Marangu Route.
Day 1 - 2: Moshi Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel set at the foothills of Africa's iconic, Mount Kilimanjaro. Here you will have time to prepare and have a climb briefing.
Day 2 - 3: Kilimanjaro National Park Gate
Today your Kilimanjaro tour kicks off as you pass through the village of Marangu set on the slopes of the mountain. Once you've reached the Kilimanjaro National Park gate and completed the entrance formalities, you climb up through attractive and unspoilt, lush rainforest forest. You may spot monkeys and brightly feathered birds along the way to Mandara Hut (3-5 hours walking).
Day 3 - 5: Mandara Horombo Hut
This morning you embark on a steep ascent through the forest, but the path soon opens out into grassy moorland. You climb steadily through the moorland zone, containing giant heathers and occasional stands of groundsel, to eventually reach the hut complex at Horombo (3,720 m). Here you spend the night in the shadow of twin snow-tipped peaks, Kibo and Mawenzi (4-6 hours walking).
Day 5 - 6: Horombo Hut To Kibo Hut
After breakfast your Kilimanjaro tour continues into the Alpine desert habitat. Heading higher towards the peak of Kilimanjaro, hike up progressively more rugged and rocky terrain and notice the air start to thin. Skirt the moonscape of the Saddle (which refers to the area located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo) to reach Kibo Hut (4-5 hours walking).
Day 6 - 7: Gillman's Point
Just after midnight, wake and enjoy a cup of tea, before zigzagging off into the night, by torchlight. Aiming to be up at Gillman's Point by sunrise, the initial climb is steep over loose volcanic scree, but there are some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will have you up to Gillman's (5,685 m) in about five or six hours. You stop here for a rest and take some time enjoying the beautiful sunrise. Continue the final trek upwards and pass along the rim of a crater to reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. The peak of Mount Kilimanjaro offers simply breathtaking views of the crater, the ice fields and the distant East African plains. After a short rest you return to Horombo for the night (11-15 hours walking).
Day 7 - 8: Marangu Gate
After breakfast you continue Your descent through alpine meadows and lush rainforests to Marangu gate. There will be a vehicle waiting to meet you and transfer you back to Your hotel based in Moshi town centre.
Your Kilimanjaro tour comes to an end as you are transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight home
