Tour Itinerary

A Unique Forest Experience

Jozani Forest is part of the "Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park", a tropical natural reserve forming an important ecosystem.

The high, dense ground water forest is home to the red colobus monkey, a very rare species only found in Zanzibar. A local guide will show you to small colonies of these unusual primates. The tropical rain forest with its lush vegetation and animal life is an attraction itself. The blue Sykes monkey, elephant shrews and bush babies are other animals to be seen.

The tour includes also a walk through the mangrove forest and will last for three hours. Other interesting features in this forest include the coastal evergreen bushland - part of the brackish water that flows through the mangrove is a nursery ground for hundreds of species of tropical fish. Saline grassland is also a highlight - most of these saline grasslands in the polders are very wet, they are also called Pampas Ground water forest, although these may require longer walks to reach.
