6-Day Zimbabwe River Voyage Lake Kariba to magical Mana Pools.

Starting fromUSD 1030 per person sharing

The Zimbabwe 6-Day River Voyage offers the thrilling experience of a river voyage on a canoe from the mysterious Lake Kariba to magical Mana Pools. The trip takes full advantage of the dry season and the lack of inland waters where by necessity, wildlife migrate in large numbers to the mighty Zambezi River. Perhaps most impressive about this tour is visiting islands that have eluded the digital clutches of Wikipedia and Google Maps. This is remote Africa at its purest. The safari as a whole covers 130 kilometers (80 miles) from start to finish. Each day an average of 21 kilometers (13 miles will be covered). Don't let this deter you; the river current does most of the work. The overall experience however, is not for the faint hearted. Hold on to your safari caps and prepare to pass through glorious surroundings.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - 2: Kariba Gorge, Zambezi River

After a safety briefing, your journey starts 8 kilometres (5 miles) downstream from the Kariba Dam Wall. Paddle 18 kilometres (11 miles) on the first day through the Kariba Gorge, a magnificent area made up of rolling hills and hidden valleys. Stop for a picnic-style lunch on the river banks where you'll have the opportunity to take a siesta or a snapshots. Arrive at your destination near to sunset where camp will be set up on Crocodile Rocks Island. Freshen up in a bucket bath, relax and have dinner after a brief safety talk on camping.

Day 2 - 3: Zambezi Valley

Today you'll be beyond the Kariba Gorge and in the Zambezi Valley. Paddle from Kariba Gorge, where the river opens up into flood plains in the Zambezi Valley, and view great numbers of wildlife. Stop for lunch and a rest at a suitable spot. In the early evening, as the skies turn pink and the heat settles over the placid waters, you'll reach your second campsite, Twin Logs Island.

Day 3 - 4: Kakoma Rara Island

Your adventure safari continues in the same pattern as the previous days with the night stop at Trichilia Island. Paddling will cover a total of 27 kilometres (16 miles). Game viewing is prolific - expect to see a variety of wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, hippo, crocodile, lion, leopard and painted hunting dog, whilst gliding past in your canoe.
