Our Botswana journey started in Victoria Falls. We flew out on Johannesburg on the British Airways flight at 11:15am – all check-in service & flights were excellent. Our impression from our last visit in 2007 was that Victoria Falls was like a ghost town, nothing in the shops and generally an air of a country in trouble still trying to handle the inflation of their currency. In 2013 it is a completely different picture, US dollar seems to have stabilized things and there seems to be a lot more confidence in the people and business. Many hotels/camps lodge upgrading and refurbishing so obviously feeling a better investment than 6 years ago. Wild Horizons looked after us for the next 2 days from Meet and Greet to transfers, and our driver/guide was brilliant, can’t speak highly enough about him. We did a guided tour of the Falls. Our guide walked us to all the points of interest, nice leisurely walk not too crowded and the water was very low (none to be seen from Zambia side at all). The border crossing to Chobe National Park was very smooth and we were able to sit in the air-conditioned car while our guide took our passport through to immigration. In addition, we also had the chance to do a Game Cruise with Pangolin Photo Safaris and it was excellent. You don’t have to be a professional photographer, or even an enthusiast but you get to use this amazing camera for the duration of the 3 hour cruise. You receive a DVD with up to 500 photos on it and share the boat with only 6 others –beer and soft drinks are included – all under the expert guidance of Guts. Makes the usual Chobe Game Cruise seem so ordinary.
