Great Times and Memorable Safaris

We have all returned to our homes after great times and memorable safaris. Our stay in Cape Town at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel was exceptional ‘olde worlde’ and very comfortable. We even hosted Sunday afternoon ‘ High Tea’! We enjoyed many of the sights and restaurants in and around Cape Town. Gomoti Plains Camp and Family was an excellent introduction to game drives- and the African massage. Mitre our guide and driver was wonderful. We went on an amazing mokoro trip on the wetlands. All are waiting for the wet season! Belmond Savuti Elephant Lodge opened 4 months ago after rebuilding and renovations. Reinhard and Lauren were wonderful hosts. Robert our driver, guide and tracker was incredible- ‘ I can smell cheetahs ‘ - and he bush bashed across the veld and found them! He stopped and looked at fresh leopard prints on the track- and the leopard was in the scrub beside the vehicle!! However after 15 safari drives we were ready for the Thorntree River Lodge!! Exquisite, relaxed and amazingly delightful! Our trip to Victoria Falls - both Zambian and Zimbabwean sides was interesting despite low water levels - and the helicopter flight was a real bonus. ( in 40C heat) The White Rhinos Walk was very interesting and sobering - as two had been poached recently and another had died of natural causes - leaving only 7 on the reserve- and one in Lusaka. We were all very grateful for our consultant Karen's excellent recommendations and organization- and all still recovering. We have many great memories- and cameras full of photos to review.
