Everything was fantastic! The lodge at GomoGomo was amazing, right there on the watering hole with animals coming and going all the time. There was one particular herd of elephants would come daily to bathe, drink and play. Then the impala, giraffes and zebras would arrive. There was a hippo in there one day. There was just so much activity all the time. The Tydon safari Camp was totally different and it was great to experience that difference. It was also a great place. The game drives were also awesome at both lodges with the guides being so knowledgable about everything. The places they took us to see the animals up close was scary at first but once we accepted that they knew what they were doing it was a great experience. Chobe was quite different again. Cresta Mowana was a beautiful place but we did prefer the smaller more intimate lodges. But once again the guides were amazing although there was not the opportunity to go off road in Chobe as there was at Klaserie or Sabi Sands we still had amazing experiences viewing the animals. To experience all the animals so up close especially a beautiful leopard was just amazing. Not so sure about some close encounters with some grumpy elephants!! We had 2 drives into Kruger which was different again. We preferred the drives on the private reserves because of how close you could get to the animals. There are too many people in Kruger all trying to see the same thing. The Safari Club in Johannesburg was so convenient to the airport. Couldn't be better for our overnight stops. The transfers all worked like magic. The only glitch was that GomoGomo were expecting Ashtons to drop us at the lodge and Ashtons (and us) were expecting the Lodge to pick us up from Hoedspruit airport. It was not a problem. A quick phone call soon had someone from Gomogomo on their way to collect us. The meals were all great everywhere. We found the drive from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth very easy. We were fearing the worst having read about South Africa's horrendous road toll. But the roads were great as were the drivers. The only ones we gave a bit more space to were those taxi van things. They seem to be in such a hurry. The accommodations we booked were all great and such value for money compared to other places we have travelled. Unfortunately we didn't get to drive the Swartberg pass. It started to rain the morning we were at Outdshoorn so thought we should give it a miss as we had read not to drive it in wet conditions. We found the Montgomery pass instead which was very interesting but not as challenging. We found everyone everywhere so helpful and courteous. We have covered many miles globally independently it took quite a bit of getting used to the fact that someone else had done the organising for us but as it turned out we couldn't have done this on our own. All in all this adventure exceeded our expectations in every way. Thank you so much Matthew for your patience with the silly things we needed to know and for putting such a wonderful plan together for us. We will be back!!
