Gorilla Trekking Tips and Advice

Gorilla trekking tours are always undertaken  in the dense forest vegetation of East Africa, and it is important to consider the following Mountain Gorilla trekking advice for the most pleasant experience.

  • The Rain

This is Africa, and sudden downpours frequently occur. Ensure you are correctly attired for this by bringing a lightweight jacket and some quick drying clothes (those of a Gore-Tex variety are preferable)

  • The Vegetation

Many of the areas you will be trekking through will be dense bush, so it is important to wear clothes for protection. Long sleeve shirts and pants are preferable, as they help prevent nettle stings and scratches.

  • The Temperature

Uganda and Rwanda are close to the equator, and daytime temperatures are generally pleasant. However, early mornings can be cold and misty, so removable, layered clothing is best.

  • Footware

This is hilly country, and forest paths can be steep and slippery. Wearing boots with traction soles is highly recommended - they also provide good support around the ankle. Paths can be muddy, so a waterproof boot is ideal.

  • The Camera

You may not bring a camera with a flash. Note your camera weight before you set out as it can be a long day gorilla trekking.
