Gorilla Trekking Safaris 365

A gorilla trekking safari is an adventure and a privilege – to come into close contact with the critically endangered mountain gorilla, the largest of all the primates and rarest subspecies of gorilla, in its natural habitat is a truly memorable experience. One of the world’s most unique activities, a gorilla trek will require a (sometimes strenuous) hike through magnificent, dense jungle to find gorilla families which have been carefully ‘habituated’ for interactions with humans. Political strife, loss of habitat and the bushmeat trade almost decimated the species in the 1980s, and while sustained conservation efforts (supported by tourism – the funds from trekking go into conservation and local community upliftment, empowerment and education) have helped to grow the population, it remains at only around 1 000, with Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda being two of the last remaining places you can find them today. Each has its unique attributes and both require permits – which Safari365 is happy to assist with.
