Unforgettable Moments in the Okavango Delta: Helicopter Trips and Sundowner Swims
Safari365 consultant Terrance Robin recently returned from a staff educational trip to Botswana and Victoria Falls. It was a trip filled with exciting safaris, beautiful landscapes, and a multitude of learning experiences. Terrance shared his review of the fourth day of their trip, which he describes as “by far the best day of the entire experience.”
"We had travelled by light aircraft from Kasane to Xugana where we had a site inspection and lunch. Thereafter, we did a short 40 minute game drive where we then commenced on mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) experience. Special mention must be made for our fantastic guides.
We were then surprised with a 10 – 15min helicopter transfer from Xugana to Camp Okavango which was just absolutely mind blowing! We flew low to the ground and saw so much wildlife during our short flight (lion, elephant, hippo and plenty of antelope) – a true National Geographic type experience and the momentary highlight of my trip!
Upon landing we were met by another surprise: A mobile bar (along with the warm and welcoming staff from the lodge) that had been set up in the middle of one of the channels flowing into the delta. We then proceeded to spend some time swimming in this channel (I know, right?!) whilst enjoying drinks and not having a care in the world – it was a moment I’ll never, ever forget! Thereafter, we moved on to the lodge where we enjoyed exquisite accommodation, superb hospitality and incredible food. We had connected with majority of our fellow guests at Camp Okavango and spent a large portion of the evening interacting, socializing and enjoying each other’s’ conversation.
The staff at all of the lodges were absolutely exceptional and it quickly became apparent that it would be impossible to leave any of the lodges we had stayed at without some sort of emotional connection. It was hands down the best trip I have ever embarked on and I cannot wait to go again!"
