Safari365 Competition Winner Review
Henriette Cronje was the lucky winner of the Safari365 10-year Anniversary Giveaway competition! Henriette and her husband won: 3 nights at More Quarters Hotel in Cape Town, a night in the Cape winelands, 3 nights at Simbavati River Lodge in Kruger National park, and 2 nights at Victoria Falls at Ilala Lodge.
They enjoyed their trip to Simbavati and Victoria Falls in September 2017 along with their young son Aiden. Henriette was kind enough to share the highlights of the amazing safari trip with us.
My husband and I had the wonderful fortune to win an amazing holiday from Safari365 to celebrate Safari365’s 10-Year Anniversary.
The trip included 3 nights on safari at the Simbavati River Lodge in the Kruger National Park and a 2 night stay at Ilala Lodge Hotel at Victoria Falls.
At Simbavati River Lodge we stayed in a luxury safari tent with an indoor and outdoor shower and private deck. All the staff were exceptionally attentive and helpful and the lovely Linda looked after our two year old son during the game drives. The food was exceptional and the one evening we had dinner in the open-air boma around a table with the game drive guide and guests that enjoyed the game drive with us.
Whilst we were not lucky enough to spot big cats on our game drives, our last afternoon was spent on a chase. Our guide described it as an incredibly rare sighting – a promise that delivered when we witnessed a pack of wild dogs on the run with their pups. What a sight!
From our safari we travelled to the lush Ilala Lodge Hotel in Victoria Falls. We were treated to quite an itinerary of activities by Safaris365 which started with a sunset river cruise on the Zambezi River. We spent the afternoon relaxing with drinks and snacks while enjoying incredible views and spotting wildlife on the banks of the river.
After an amazing breakfast the next morning we started the day with a guided tour of the Victoria Falls. The tour took approximately 2 hours and took us through the Victoria Falls rainforest with various amazing viewpoints on the edge of the falls. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we had an unforgettable experience. Although end of August is during the “low water” period the magnitude of the falls still took our breath away and we could really appreciate the views without getting soaking wet – in fact the light spray from falls was the highlight for us!
After the tour we thought that we could not experience the falls any better than we did – until we experienced a helicopter flight over the falls which the locals describe as the “flight of the angels”.
The flight was an amazing experience which offered the best views of the falls as well as the Zambezi River and the Zambezi National Park.
After all the excitement from seeing the Victoria Falls both close up and from the air we ended off our stay kicking back next to the pool at Ilala Lodge Hotel and just soaking it all up. We could even spot a rainbow of the mist from the falls from the terrace at the hotel!
We made the best memories during our holiday to Simbavati River Lodge and Ilala Lodge Hotel! The biggest thank you to Safari365 for the amazing prize and especially our Safari365 consultant Gerhard Hefers who made all the arrangements for us which all went off without a hitch!
