Endless Plains at Serengeti Pioneer Camp
Safari365 Consultant Wanita Lassen enjoyed a stay at Serengeti Pioneer Camp in Tanzania during a recent staff educational trip. She visited the tented camp located in the heart of the Serengeti where she experienced the camp's hospitality and activities on offer. Wanita shares the highlights with us.
After a long drive through the savanna landscape we arrived at this little haven hidden away between the rocky kopjes, blending in beautifully with the surrounding nature.
Elewana’s Serengeti Pioneer Camp is a tented camp nestled into the heart of the Southern Central Serengeti. The location offers prime access to wildlife viewing, especially during the annual Great Migration when it passes through the area.
When we visited, the camp was tucked into a prime spot near by the Meru Kopjes. The Serengeti was named “endless plains” in the Maasai language for a clear reason – the rolling savanna, dotted with iconic acacia trees, stretched out as far as my eyes could see. The location of the camp was a great place for excellent game viewing with resident prides of lion as well as leopard often being spotted in the area.
The area around the camp transforms from flat grassland landscape to the hilly, rocky kopje. The camp’s tents are spaced out beneath the hills with the main dining tent sitting at the foot of the kopje.
Upon arrival, we were showered with warm welcomes by friendly members of staff. Every staff member I encountered at Pioneer Camp was attentive and helpful with a positive attitude.
The interior design of the tents reflected memories of a bygone safari era with bespoke wooden furnishings, writing stations, wooden trunks and old-school safari hats to top it all off.
In the evening, we made our way to the main dining tent and enjoyed a great meal. After dinner was one of my highlights. We sat next to the camp fire, warming our hands as the logs crackled and the sparks danced through the night air. The star-filled sky twinkled above our heads while we listened to the faint sounds of wildlife in the distance.
The next day began with a hot cup of coffee and an early rise for a morning game drive where we were guided through the sights of the surrounding Serengeti. After the morning game drive activity you can come back to enjoy lunch and take a relaxing dip in the pool or spend some time relaxing in your tent, before the late afternoon game drive.
Pioneer Camp is a lovely destination – one of my favourites in Tanzania - with a great, warm atmosphere. It has the most amazing views and spectacular sunrises and sunsets that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
