Review: A Brazilian in Namibia
Namibia is a unique destination on Southern Africa’s west coast. It is a country made up of sweeping deserts, strikingly stark landscapes, rugged coastlines, quaint towns and warm, friendly people. Our Brazil-based travel specialist Eliane visited Namibia and shared the highlights of her visit.
"Imagine a landscape. Now imagine the most starkly beautiful landscape you have ever seen.
If you haven´t been to Namibia then you haven´t seen some of the most the stunning scenery in the world.
It is not just one spot of interest. It is an entire country full of dramatic views, interesting wildlife and amazing people. I couldn´t pick the best place, as they are all stunning and overwhelming.
From Etosha´s dry savanna to the Kalahari Desert everything will take your breath away.
Damaraland with its petrified forest, Twyfelfontein´s rock art and the desert adapted elephants was the first place to blow my mind. Those elephants respect nature so much that, different from other regions, they take what they need from the very few trees at the area and leave them standing due to their understanding of scarce natural resources.
After that, we went south to Swakopmund; a cute town froze in time. There you´ll have the impression you will find late 19th century Europeans around every corner. Between all the activities that can be done at the area, from skydiving to scenic flights over Skeleton Coast, the one I loved most was the boat trip at Walvis Bay, where we get to see dolphins, seals and pelicans that visit your boat for a bite of fresh fish.
Sossusvlei area has so many amazing places like Dune 45, Deadvlei & caves that show us how nature owns everything and we are mere spectators of its greatness. Every activity has its charm, from cycling, hiking to quad bikes & hot air balloon trips.
As if all of those places aren´t enough for the trip of a lifetime, you still have the opportunity to learn about Namibian cultures such as the Himba tribe (close to Etosha) and San People (in the Kalahari region). The san bushmen are indigenous hunter-gathers considered to be the first people of Southern Africa.
Namibia gathers so many amazing places that it will conquer your heart and leave you breathless."
