Going to visit Victoria Falls? Zimbabwe has good news
Good news! A visit to Victoria Falls will soon be easier than ever. A large scale expansion of Vic Falls International Airport [in Zimbabwe] will see travelers satisfying their wanderlust with direct flights to Victoria Falls – ultimately skipping unnecessary queues and stopovers.
Other than raising the competitive bar as an exciting destination (which will inevitably lead to cheaper vacations), the airport will introduce more flexibility when exploring Africa.
According to news reports, construction will be complete towards the end of 2015. The US$150 million makeover will include a new terminal building with a capacity to handle 1.5 million passengers per year and a four kilometer runway – which is already being eyed by Emirates, Etihad and Kenya Airways.
Zimbabwe on the rise
The news follows the exciting announcement of the UNIVISA which sees certain nationalities entering both Zimbabwe and Zambia with no additional day passes; the e-visa for certain nationals; negotiations for a US$460 million resort Victoria Falls; and numerous other lodge upgrades and new openings.
Zimbabwe is no doubt on the rise. Late last year Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi, told Explore South Africa Magazine the government is aiming to boost tourism revenue to US$5 billion in 2018.
As travelers and proud supporters of Africa we’re extremely excited. Zimbabwe is calling.
